If a pilot fulfills two or more criteria, the highest on the list will take priority. You can change the colour of the background of any pilot state.
Generally, as backgrounds are quite distracting, many players keep them unchecked except for outlaws and war targets. In a situation where you want to be able to see neutrals or hostiles very clearly, such as in nullsec or wormhole space, it can be handy to keep all backgrounds checked. This is useful for highlighting certain pilots in your overview.
Columns let you select which columns you want to see in your overview. The column order in overview can be changed by dragging the columns in this window. Topmost thing will be used as the leftmost column. The Ships tab lets you customize what you see when you mouse over an object in space.
It also lets you customize the order information is shown in, and the brackets used on either side of each bit of information. To reorder the information drag and drop them in this window. Again, some bits are useful, and some bits are not. Ship Name, for example, is rarely useful, whereas Ship Type is very useful. The Misc tab allows you to reset all of your overview settings and start from scratch.
You will want to consider resetting all of your overview settings prior to importing a new overview profile. Be sure to export or save in-game your current settings prior to doing this. It also has the option of moving objects that are mentioned in broadcasts to the top of an overview. The Import and Export Overview Settings buttons are used to save or import your saved profiles from your computer.
Please note that this history is only stored in your local settings for that user so we recommend storing profile links you want to keep around in more permanent places such as the in-game notepad or character bio. See "Saving and Sharing your Overview Profile" for further details. Any YAML exported overview can be edited to customize the appearance of the ship information in space. The overview Tabs and in-space bracket text attributes size, color, bold can be edited using the procedures found on this wiki page: Overview manipulation Editing the Tabs and in-space bracket attributes will allow for quicker identification of items of interest.
Saving and sharing overview profiles solves makes it possible to grab overview made by someone else or share same overview to your different alts and computers. Please don't ask, it's never going to happen. Okay, so some have decided to provide exported. There are some things you should be aware of with. Always go through the entire overview setup process when configuring a new account or a new computer. The XML file only has part of the necessary configuration contained within it.
This is problematic if you wish to replicate your overview setup between two computers, or two EVE instances on the same computer, because you have to do a lot of manual configuration after the XML file import anyway.
Each of these space objects also have a "state" attached to it. The state affects all filter type definition on a profile. A small ship or a frigate can be a friendly frigate or a hostile one.
The states tab defines whether on what state the filters you have setup is displayed on your overview. If you have a set of ships ticked on one profile, you'll need to define whether you want them displayed at all times regardless what's the ships or any objects state, or you may want to only display those ship types only if they're hostile or only if they're friendly to you.
An overview profile is a set of collective rules that defines what space-objects are to be displayed on what state on that particular tab in which you've assigned them to. Brackets are those tiny icons displayed in space outside of the overview scope that shows you what objects are there and which ones are displayed on your screen.
These terms are used when other ships or a random objects interacts with your ship. These will be displayed on your overview and your brackets in space. Below are the necessary steps to setup your overview properly. Bear in mind that if you have previous experience on referencing to different sources of how-to setup your overview, such as the Eve University Overview Guide , ours are quite different in some ways. The Retribution patch introduces a whole new way of configuring how your overview displays objects with certain states, aside from the introduction of the new flags such as Suspect and Criminal flag, the new overview also allows us to further group entities by separating them between appearance the icons displayed and their backgrounds, which was not possible before.
This allows us as a community heavily based on standings to identify between friendlies, neutral and hostile entities to further extend how the overview present this information to us in a real time manner and easier identification. To know what these changes entail and how does it affects you after you done all these steps below, please make sure to read the Using Your Overview section of this article. Below tutorial were designed with nullsec living as the primary consideration.
Please take note that if you spend a lot of time in highsec, there are various things you may want to be aware of. Some of those things are the mechanics of -5 standings previously named Outlaws and all variants of aggression flags Suspect, Criminal and Bounty.
This first step is necessary only and only if you are not using any overview packs or in other terms, this particular step is only for those of you who wants to customize your own overview! Just take note that you still need to do the Step 2 of this tutorial regardless of whether you use an overview pack or not and regardless of which overview pack you are planning to use.
The filters tab contains all the necessary options in relation to what items or space objects are to be displayed on your overview window. This section controls what objects are going to be displayed on your overview and when they are going to be displayed.
This might be confusing for newer players, but here's an example. Say there is an Oracle on grid with me on grid means that I'm "in range" with and can interact with him , if I have Battlecruisers ticked on the "Types" tab since Oracle is a Battlecruiser , I should be able to see him on my overview right?
The settings on the filters tab are not shared across overview profiles, this is a good thing because it means you can have multiple different profiles with different functionality. For instance, you can have a profile that shows only hostile stealthbombers by ticking only stealthbombers on the "Types" sub tab and all relevant hostile filter states on the "States" sub tab. You can save each changes by accessing the save profile settings from the top left of the overview window and hit "Save Current Type Selection As".
There's no way to sugarcoat this to make this step quicker so let's just be blunt here. This first step is the most tedious part of the process, but it's also the second most important part of this tutorial and the only way to actually configure your overview to accommodate requests or instructions from the FC such as "Load up your bombing profile! So, let's begin. So you may need to do this several times before proceeding to Step Note : It is highly advised to save a 'Podsaver' overview profile containing only bounce points celestials or warpable points in space, common recommendations are Moons and Custom Offices , this is quite common way to make use of the last of the five different tabs will be explained on the later section of this tutorial to quickly gtfo when you're dead, dying or just needing to bounce from a PvP engagement.
After you think you got all you needed for your overview, as in you might want to save at least five three at the bare minimum : profile for travelling, for pvp, and pod saver. You may continue to Step-2 of this tutorial. Note : If you don't feel like building your own profiles by saving different set of filters. You may want to check out the overview pack section of this article. Bear in mind that you're highly advised to try out and read the steps as mentioned in this article and regardless of whether you're using an overview pack or not, you would still need to do at least the step-2 part of this setup.
Below settings are arguably the most important thing you should do. This will ensure that all members of the Uni, whether in a fleet or otherwise, see the same Overview settings for Appearance colortags and backgrounds with the proper priorities, and can be clear which targets they are able to shoot and which they may not. It is important that potential members have this Overview set up before joining, even if they are not intending to train their character into combat.
It offers a number of presets which are designed to provide our members with a wide variety of possibilities due to the broad scope of EVE University's operations and campuses.
Once familiar with how to set up their Overview, members are free, and encouraged to, personalize their own presets to suit their own needs. The Appearances should not be edited as these are most critical to remain the same for all members. To access your Overview Settings you can either add a shortcut or use a slash command.
