Good to be great download

First who, then what — as a rigorous discipline, consistently applied. This model fails when the genius departs. The G2G leaders were rigorous, not ruthless, in people decisions. They did not rely on restructuring and layoffs as a primary strategy for improving performance.

The comparison companies used layoffs to a much greater extent. Three practical disciplines for being rigorous in people decisions:. G2G management teams consist of people who debate vigorously in search of the best answers, yet who unify behind the decision, regardless of parochial interests. There is no worse mistake in public leadership than to hold out false hopes soon to be swept away.

Winston S. The G2GC infused the process with the brutal facts of reality, allowing for communication between the lower and upper levels of management without the threat of retribution. The moment a leader allows himself to become the primary reality people worry about, rather than reality being the primary reality, you have a recipe for mediocrity, or worse. Charisma can be as much a liability as an asset, as the strength of your leadership personality can deter people from bringing you the brutal facts.

If you have the right people on the bus you will not have to spend a lot of time motivating them. As a leader you must create an environment where the truth is heard and brutal facts are confronted. Four ways to do this:. The Stockdale Paradox — Retain faith that you will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties and at the same time confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they may be.

To go from good to great companies require a deep understanding of three intersecting circles translated into a simple, crystalline concept the hedgehog concept. The Hedgehog Concept is not a goal, strategy, or intention; it is an understanding. If you cannot be the best in the world at your core business; then your core business cannot on the basis of your Hedgehog Concept. You might have a competence but not necessarily have the capacity to be truly the best in the world at that competence.

A Culture of Discipline : Sustained great results depend upon an overarching organizational culture of discipline. Disciplined thought followed by disciplined action is required. Do not assume this requires a tyrant leader who disciplines — this leads to highly dysfunctional organizations.

Technology Accelerators : Good to Great organizations think differently about technology. None of the Good to Great companies Collins studied began their transformations with pioneering technology, yet they all became pioneers in the application of technology once they fit it within their Hedgehog Concept. The flywheel effect : A Good to Great transformation looks dramatic to customers and the market, but the beginnings may be unnoticed inside the company.

The process is akin to pushing a large, heavy flywheel. This results in the accumulation of tangible positive outcomes and serves to energize and earn the loyalty of the staff. In contrast to the flywheel effect, the doom loop is characterized by reactive decision-making, an overextension into too many diverse areas of concentration, following short-lived trends, frequent changes in leadership and personnel, loss of morale, and disappointing results.

The Good to Great process : The seven lessons from the book result in a basic process, as shown below. The Lean East team would love to hear from any leaders who have used the ideas in this book to transform their organizations. This process takes time to see true results. We are concerned that many organizations and leaders do not have the patience and discipline to keep pushing, especially at the beginning when results are hard to see.

Is it possible to achieve this with staff who you cannot remove from posts if performance is an issue? I work in the social sector and have staff which will not or cannot be moved, but still looking to achieve this improvement.

I know the right people on the bus mentality, but will that ever be an option if the wrong people are on the bus, or is it possible to convert them to the right people?? Hi Allan, We have supported social sector organizations and often have to deal with constraints, including around workforce contracts.

We would need to discover the root cause problems in order to answer your questions. Why did the wrong people get on the bus? Most ISPs advertise only download speeds, so you might not even realize that upload speeds are a separate thing.

Download speeds are also generally the faster of the two speeds, so most advertisements tend to focus on them. Although we constantly both download and upload information online, for most of us, the information we upload is generally much smaller.

By contrast, the only information that needs to be uploaded are the search terms you look up and the information from the links and buttons you click. Most of us have had to deal with slow download speeds at one point or another, which often involves waiting for images to appear on a web page or a video stopping in the middle of playback to buffer.

There are several reasons why your internet speed might dip temporarily due to traffic or routine maintenance. Thinking of switching to a faster plan?

What is a good Wi-Fi speed? What is download speed? What is upload speed? Download speed is generally more important than upload speed Although we constantly both download and upload information online, for most of us, the information we upload is generally much smaller.
